Our History

Sisler Builders has been in business, building and renovating homes in the Stowe area, for over three decades. Recently we expanded our expertise in custom woodworking to include furniture and other consumer products. We have also leveraged our construction experience to become a regional leader in the developing field of thermal efficiency. We bring our reputation for honesty, integrity, and high-quality craftsmanship to every project, large or small.

Our long history of construction and woodworking started with historic building renovation. Owner and founder Steve Sisler began renovating historic buildings with his mother when he was a young teenager. The principles of enduring craftsmanship that he learned during those early days on the construction site have played a formative role in the evolution of our company. Steve is now grooming his son Luke to carry these principles into the next generation.

We believe the construction process is about delivering a superior product on time and within budget. Our commitment to doing the job right the first time is backed by a breadth of experience, skills, training, and education, which brings intrinsic value to any Sisler project.

Our business is as much about building and maintaining relationships as it is about building and improving houses. Over the years, we have earned the trust and respect of homeowners throughout the North Central Vermont region. Many clients have become repeat customers and often friends.

To build a high-quality house, complete a quality remodeling project, craft an exquisite piece of furniture, or optimize a building’s performance, we depend on our clients and employees, and also on many subcontractors and material suppliers. Our commitment to these partnerships has resulted in an extended team of talented people who are willing and able to support us to get the job done right.

Our Process

Effective communication is essential to a successful and satisfying construction experience. We will keep you in the loop every step of the way. First we will work with you to align our goals and develop the same expectations. Then we will give you routine updates with frequent communications to ensure that we fulfill those expectations.

Through our advanced information systems we can tailor our communication methods to your needs and availability. We can schedule routine face-to-face meetings or have phone conferences. We can email or use our web-based collaboration system. We can transmit photos real time via email or post photos on in the cloud. Our goal is to keep you informed and engaged throughout the entire process, so there are no surprises, only complete satisfaction.

Our deep understanding of the building process, gained through years of experience, enables us to make the decisions that will protect your project vision and your investment.

In the beginning stages of the process, we will:

  • Work with you to define the scope of your project
  • Set expectations about what is involved to complete your project
  • Build a timeline with projected milestones
  • Develop a detailed budget for the project, as well as tracking reports to measure performance against the budget as the project progresses
  • Determine the best way to share information with your over the course of the project (e.g., web, email, or phone)

Our Philosophy

Here in Vermont we are surrounded by beauty and constantly reminded of the importance of protecting the land and the way of life that drew us here or kept us here in the first place. But we are not unique. The urgent need to protect and preserve the earth’s limited resources is becoming more palpable everyday, and there is a growing awareness that we each need to do our part to create a more sustainable world.

“Sustainable development” refers to development that “meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”(1)  At Sisler Builders this concept has permeated and guided our work for more than 30 years. It informs every aspect of what we do, from building design to material choices to construction methods. While many of our clients are interested in “going green,” the choices and considerations along the way can seem complicated and confusing, and the cost can be significant. Our trained and certified professionals continually stay abreast of the current “best” sustainable building practices and their ability to explain and demystify them for our clients.

We understand that construction budgets and lifestyle considerations will influence choices. We quantify the upfront cost and economic payback of each of our recommendations, as well as the impact they will have on the environment and on the way our clients live. With this information our clients can choose the most suitable recommendations to achieve their goals.
