Sisler Builders
built the original portion of this home many years ago. Recently we enlarged
it. The owners originally wanted a rustic ski barn. We partnered with a local post and beam specialty firm who built a spruce and hemlock timber frame with
traditional joinery. We enclosed the frame with insulated walls and roof while
local Italian stone masons erected a massive stone fireplace in the middle of house.
Then we did the finish work which included installing tall south facing windows to bring natural light deep into the
home. Originally the house had moderately sized kitchen, dining and living areas,
four bedrooms, a sleeping loft, and three baths.
Sixteen years
later the owners wanted more space and amenities. They had us add three additions,
expand the living room, and finish the lower level. The main addition consists
of a master bedroom suite with office, walk-in closet, and reading loft. A two
car garage is below, and all this is topped-off by a cupola with electronically controlled windows. A smaller addition created an entry foyer with a powder room and walk-in closet. A tiny addition expanded the kitchen to house a gourmet range
and prep area of Vermont
soap stone. The living room was doubled in size by merging it with the former
master bedroom. Amenities abound in
the newly enlarged basement with media and game rooms paneled in pickled pine, a bath with steam shower, and a bar with wine
cellar. Extensive landscaping finished the project.
